I’m from the Nu Metal/Emo generation (bullshit, I know) and I think his music is masterful. In terms of his cinematic taste an knowledge of world cinema, it all depends on your mentality. His music reflects on the grandeur of the American nation and the current time (the 1960’s), and his music in turn, reflects on his viewpoints. Thus, his taste in film should be rooted in grand American movies.
Film is not the Ultimate Art Form.
What a coincidence, I’ve borrowed that very book. Too bad I wont read it and none of you can have it. Darn shame, it explains ALL the symbolism for all his movies.
( I really don’t remember starting this thread)
I don’t think any director, Save for Bay is overrated. Plus, this thread just seems to be for people to vent out directors that don’t match their tastes.

You see, this for me is a life question and a chief cornerstone in my lapsed search for the meaning of life and how life should be lived. I muse about the answer and I flit between both answers when the situation (whenever this is) suits it or when I become unsure of my worldview. Yes, well. Centering my doubt around film. When I watch a movie I often feel that a small amount of time without action of substantial importance in the entire work drags on all the way to Hell until something relevant happens. My friends, who eat up Hollywood dreck, usually find something like Vampyr, The Third Man, etc. boring. Being of their generation and formerly sharing their tastes, I find my favorite contemporary directors difficult to sit through. By now I am unsure of what I want to know and what I am asking. Back to the original question, what I basically ask is if a period of lapsed activity be classified as relative or realistic. For example, if I don’t get an order of fast in, perhaps ten to twenty minutes, should I think, “damn this is taking fucking forever”, or, this is taking longer than expected? The same applying to film.
I’m a 14-year-old who’s been robbed of his childhood. I want to be a filmmaker. I have considered painter, paleontologist, drug dealer, journalist, writer, chemist, biologist, archaeologist, game designer, vagabond, psychologist, animator, and sketcher.
To Daniel: just consider, Tarkovsky films aren’t very well known or much cited among most directors, but yes, they are beautiful. They do not aim to be entertainments however.
