Thank you, Dave, for the kind words. And thanks for fanning Sternberg. Putting that one together was a great experience for me, seeing all his extant films in chronological order and ending the project with the powerful and moving masterpiece Anatahan which is essentially a silent film with his voice over throughout in the manner of Japanese silent films. I know what you mean about each new film becoming your favorite. I am still experiencing that every time I see one of Borzage's last four silent masterpieces. Seventh Heaven, Street Angel, The River, and Lucky Star. From about '27 on filmmakers seemed to realize that the art of film was soon to change forever and put everything they had into a number of amazingly great movies. Not the least of these is Sternberg's beautiful The Docks of New York which rises in my admiration and love every time I see it, and one of the lost films I most long for is his The Case of Lena Smith. Speaking of great films, I spent quite a bit of time last night with your "filmography", finding many of my favorites there and being very impressed by the breadth of your interests as well as the depth of your examination of particular directors.
