I think it's well-executed all the way around--a bit experimental with all the different performances, most of them standing out as respectful and from the heart. Christian Bale was incredible. I'm not an expert on Dylan but I do know a bit about the times and I thought it was an interesting character study/experiment.
To me it seems a film over heavy in concept and light in substance. There are things to like such as certain performances (Bale, Ledger, Blanchett), but I find it has little to no dramatic power and surprisingly little to say about Dylan the man or of his music (beyond what is built into the very concept of it). Also, its' seemingly surreal flights of fancy seem completely drab. What do you think of it?
I was really torn about Certified Copy. It was clearly very well made, and very enjoyable on all fronts, but I wasn't thrilled about the anticlimax, am mildly surprised that a vet like Kiarostami took on a story we've all seen before and didn't innovate it, and am unsure about the chemistry between the two. I enjoyed the experience heartily (currently my #3 of 2010), but have all these nitpicky things...
