EARLY FILMS BY CARL DREYER almost 3 years ago

The Danish Film Institute has released a number of early Dreyer films on DVD with English subs:

Præsidenten / The President (1919 – a major work of its period, with complicated flashback structures and advanced cinematogaphy)

Blade af Satans bog / Leaves Out of the Book of Satan (1921)

Der var engang … / Once Upon a Time (1922 – was considered lost, but has been restored to a partially complete version – the least interesting of Dreyer’s early films in the opinion of yours truly).

And the BFI released Master of the House a couple of years ago. Silent cinema aficionados might also want to have a look at the other DVD’s in the silent collection from DFI, incl. Benjamin Christensen, Asta Nielsen, and the “sci-fi” double feature of Himmelskibet / A Trip to Mars, with Verdens undergang / The End of the World.

Favourite Philippe Garrel Movie? almost 3 years ago

When his latest film, “La frontière de l’aube” was screened at the Rotterdam film festival this year, it was preceded by his earliest short film (the earliest still in existance): “Les enfants desaccordées” (1964, 15 min.). Teenage kicks, for sure…Unbelievable how developed the Garrel touch was at age 16.

Does anybody happen to know how to get one’s hands on Droit de visite, Marie pour mémoire, La concentration, Athanor, Un ange passe, Le berceau de cristal, Voyage au jardin des mots, and/or Le bleu des origines – ? S’il vous plait…

Looking for 16/35mm rental prints of 60/70's euro-genre cinema!! over 2 years ago

Hello hello,

I am looking for 16/35mm screening prints of films that walk the line between excess and excellence, many of which were made in the fine period of late 60’s – mid 70’s.

If anyone of you fellow Auteurists knows where to get hold of prints for rental (or knows where they have been screened previously) I will be most grateful for your help. I am looking for prints subtitled/dubbed in English.

From the ongoing wishlist:

MESSIAH OF EVIL (Willard Huyck, 1973)
GANJA AND HESS (Bill Gunn, 1973)
DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS (Harry Kümel, 1971)
ZOO ZERO (Alain Fleischer, 1979)
EYEBALL (Umberto Lenzi, 1974)
DEADLY SWEET (Tinto Brass, 1967)
NEROSUBIANCO / ATTRACTION (Tinto Brass, 1969)
BABA YAGA (Corrado Farino, 1973)
VENGEANCE OF THE ZOMBIES / LA REBELION DE LAS MUERTAS (Leon Klimovsky, 1972)
BLIND BEAST / MOJU (Yasuzo Masumura, 1969)
THE FORBIDDEN PHOTOS OF A LADY ABOVE SUSPICION (Luciano Ercoli, 1970)

… and other titles in the same vein. Thanks!

It’s for screenings in Copenhagen (Denmark) by way of international shipping. And happy New Year’s!
