A romantic musical comedy in which 43-year-old Fred Astaire stalks 17-year-old Joan Leslie--what's not to like?
A fun, but uncharacteristically unsubtle and disappointingly didactic, film from the Japanese master.
The music spoils it. An entirely diegetic soundtrack would have fit much better with the film's general aesthetic. It's such a pity, as it could easily have been a masterpiece.
I cannot disagree with you more on this. It basically shows that life continues, always continues, even when things get as hard as they do in this film. It's one of the most emotionally impacting scores I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. But, alas, one cannot always agree with another!
