About Me

I am a film buff and visual arts enthusiast, with varying interest in music, cooking and travel. Some of my favorite filmmakers are Akira Kurosawa, Robert Bresson, Carl Theodore Dreyer, Jacque Tati, Krystof Kieslowski, David Lean, Hirokazu Kore-eda, John Landis, Stanley Kubrick, Yasujiro Ozu, Martin Scorsese… etc. I have lived in Asia and Europe and enjoy travel. I am working on a novel and a couple of screenplays and looking for collaborators.

I have loved cinema since I could remember and Criterion is the best thing that’s happened to cinema-philes ever. I hope in the future they are a little more bold with their releases. I’d like to see releases of some works by people like Yu Hyun-mok, Hong Sang-Soo from Korea and Juzo Itami, Yoji Yamada from Japan… and more Blu-ray please!!! I’m dying for a Blu-ray release of Lawrence of Arabia, Three Colors Trilogy and the Decalogue!

Lenfant

L'enfant

This is another masterwork from the Dardenne Brothers. Jeremie Renier who was so good in The Promise is just perfect in this.

I just signed on to this forum yesterday. I am surprised I didn't earlier... great discussions and reviews from very passionate cinephiles. I've been a loyal follower of Criterion for the last 10+ years and I am very excited for them to re-release alot of the old titles into a better format.. ala Seventh Seal, Playtime, Seven Samurai.

The Decalogue

The Decalogue

This is Kieslowski’s magnum opus. 10 hours of brilliance, at times touching, tragic, poetic, ironic, mysterious and spiritual.. also very funny (Decalogue 10). It’s not just an exploration of the…  read review

Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day

This is a modern day masterpiece. Roger Ebert said it best, it’s so effortless and so easy going you don’t realize how good it is until you see it a few more times… not a lot of films age so well…  read review

There Will Be Blood

There Will Be Blood

I agree with most people that this is the most Kubrick-esque film perhaps since Eyes Wide Shut and I think Anderson is his rightful heir. He is either a very skillful mimic or a master of style……  read review

Fanny and Alexander — The Television Version

Fanny and Alexander — The Television Version

To this date, this is the best Criterion release in my opinion (and I’m talking about the TV, Theater, and Making of Box set). I’ve never saw the full version prior to this, just the 3+ hour theatrical…  read review
