Thanks to this page I’ve seen this incredible movie, this one goes right into my Favorite Movie list.
Oh, and that ending was PRECIOUS! Amazing, it’s one of the best things to do with this kind of film, like the punchline of a really good joke.
Stanley Kubrick: The Shining
Martin Scorcese: Raging Bull
Quentin Tarantino: Kill Bill Vol. 2
David Fincher: Fight Club
Alfred Hitchcock: Vertigo
Francis Ford Coppola: Apocalypsis Now
Jean-Luc Godard: Breathless
Paul Thomas Anderson: Magnolia
Charlie Chaplin: Modern Times
Akira Kurosawa: The Seven Samurai
1. Donnie Darko (2001)
2. Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 (2003-4)
3. Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
4. Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (2004)
5. Bowling for Columbine (2002)
6. There Will Be Blood (2007)
7. Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2-3)
8. Adaptation. (2002)
9. Spirited Away (2001)
10. Southland Tales (2006)
The OP said that the tooth extraction seemed like from a comic book…
Well, it IS a comic book, after all, it’s based on a japanese manga comic and adapted for Korean audiences.
From my point of view, is one of the best movies ever, along with Sympathy for Lady (which I think is even better).
So, an entertaining movie can’t be taken seriously…
I don’t know all of you, but I can’t watch a movie if it isn’t entertaining enough, that’s why I droped “Nostalgia” after 40 minutes of silence, and I don’t mean slow pace, but entertainment value (or even thrills), like “The Son” is one of the best movies ever, so is “In the Mood for Love” or, heck, even the dialogue-less introduction in “2001” got me interested and entertained.
“Old Boy” is an artful and entertaining movie, which is rare in this 21st Century.

That’s one video you should all see, it says with some kind of personal approach, why Star Wars Original Trilogy is important to cinema.
@ Fredo – I don’t pretend to move away from the argument, but just saying that I’ve read the discussion and I can’t argue because I haven’t seen Rachel (lack of theaters… and DVDs), I didn’t want to post my opinion without acknolewdging tha above discussion, wich as I already said, is pretty interesting.
Now, Fredo, I haven’t insulted your taste, so don’t insult mine, I try as hard as I can to stay in this interesting community (which I haven’t visited in a long time due to my PC breakdown) but I keep finding people like you.
About Slumdog… yeah I liked it, and it can top Wall-E any day you like.
Other good movies from 2008 were Che: Part One (haven’t seen Two), The Dark Knight… Recount was extremely interesting and so was The Wrestler.
By the way, the fact that one of the best movies of 2008 wasn’t released on a cinèma leaves me unfaithful for film industry in the future. I mean “Dr. Horrible”? MASTERPIECE!!!
1. 3
2. Hannah and her Sisters was the most decent of the three…
3. Because of the performances, it was a really good film, especially because of Allen himself and Michael Caine.
4. Vicky Cristina Barcelona was AWFUL. How can people really like that? It was a turistic commercial, Boring. Penélope Cruz was the only Good thing.
5. It seems to be.
6. Again, Hannah and her Sisters
As I said once to my friends and this applies to everything in my life:
“If I had the choice between go to the museum or stay at home and play videogames, just hand me that controller, I haven’t been able to defeat that boss yet!” – Jaime Grijalba
A movie I want to watch must not require me any knowledge besides the… you know… basic stuff… and I don’t mean dumbed down movie, because I love David Lynch and Donnie Darko, or any other kind of film that makes you think. A film must not require knowledge, it must CREATE it!!
And this is all but a critique against “Art House” flicks (I have to say that name’s stupid), because as long as it entertains me it’s good, like Battleship Potemkin, powerful movie and not boring at all (as many would say about it’s artistic value), the only bad thing about it was it’s obvious Propaganda, which kinda annoyed me, even if I`m fo or against the philosophy presented there.
My dream project is… completely original, so I won’t say it whole: I’ll say it combines grief, time travel and a coup de etat.
The other one is the REAL life of Elisabeth Bathory, the Bloody Countess, but there are alredy many films like this.
1. The Shining (1980)
2. The Evil Dead (1981)
3. Psycho (1960)
4. Hanyo (1960) <— this is an awesome horror movie and you can watch it now, some may not agree with this calification, but just wait.
5. The Thing (1982)
6. The Fly (1986)
7. Halloween (1978)
8. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
9. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
10. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
I don’t really know, but I think I can help with Chile… there’s Jodorowsky, Ruiz and Amenábar; without counting Wood (recent), or Littin (since the 60’s).
:)
Vertigo and It’s a Wonderful Life
Psycho and Hanyo (Housemaid)
Back to the Future and American Graffiti

Guillermo Del Toro – El Laberinto del Fauno
Alejandro González Iñárritu – 21 Grams
Alfonso Cuarón – The Shock Doctrine… nah… Children of Men
Akis Kaurismaki –
Abbas Kiarostami –
Giuseppe Tornatore – Nuovo Cinema Paradiso
Lukas Moodysson –
Wong Kar Wai – In The Mood for Love
Michael Haneke –

Lars von Trier – Riget
Takashi Miike – Audition
Luc Besson – Lèon: The Profesional
Catherine Breillat –
Jean-Pierre Jeunet – Amèlie

Entertainment above all things.
But I’m easily entertained, the movies I like tend to be the ones that can make a connection with me… like Donnie Darko :)
