Meditations on capitalism/socialism via a cruise ship casino, a gas station with a llama outside and the influence of Egypt and Naples, to name a few elements. Not exactly Godard's best work, but arguably more watchable than much of his Dziga Vertov era material besides Tout va bien (1972). If nothing else, one can appreciate crashing waves in digital HD.
Griffith has assembled an avantgarde film which has yet to find its modern equivalent. Though the concept of "intolerance" is certainly a semantic moving target throughout the film, the four narratives cohere in one's gut... sort of like Avatar (2009), in fact. The editing of 400+ hours of footage down to a 3.3 hour product causes certain bits of excess which remain quite digestible to this day.
