1.La Haine
2.Once upon time in Amercia
3.Paris, Texas
4.Pulp Fiction
5.On The waterfront
6. Fucking Amal
7. There will be Blood
8. Dead Mans Shoes
9. Bullet in the head
10.Dazed and confused
A Hole in My heart is very under-rated, its a hard watch but i love the way its filmed. Together is probably overall his most enjoyable movie bu Fucking Amal is the one film i always go back too cause its his most heartfelt for me anyway. Lilya 4 ever is a very tough film to watch but is a geat film.
The probelm i had with film school was after spending a large amount money and going through a ton of interviews to get into the film school i went too, i knew a week or two into it that it was a complete waste of time. Basically you are dealing with 20 people with egos who all want to be direct or write. Which at the end of the day wasn’t going to happen. so you had very frosty atmosphere between people in class and on a film set.Another thing that bothered me was a lot of it was about business and computer graphics and designing websites, which i wasn’t really interested in.
A lot of people as well weren’t interested in cinema or films, i was shocked that half of the class would fall asleep while we were watching Breathlessor the 4oo Blows. I personally think its a waste of time and i would recommend get yourself a camera and go out and make shorts films. i learned more from that then anything else.
Over the last few weeks i’ve seen some great films like
A Bittersweet Life
Red Desert
Masculin feminin
Dancer in The Dark
Punch drunk love
3 women
all on Youtube and i was wondering have any of you guys happen to see any good films that you would recommend to see on youtube.I’m just interested in seen a large amount of good films over the summer. i would love to hear a few suggestions if you have any, thanks.
I can’t help but be touched by Shane Meadows films. He brings a honest, heartfelt and sometimes savage insight into working class British life. For me, he’s directed posssibly four of the greatest British films in the last Twenty years. But still he’s hughly under rated by the public and world critics alike, go watch THIS IS ENGLAND and DEAD MAN SHOES to see how talented this guy is. Also watch 24/7 ( which he won a prize at the Berlin film Festival) and A Room for Romeo Brass, which are great too.
I just wanted to ask you guys what Films that aren’t consider any good that have gone straight to video or d.v.d but you have a soft spot for..
I loved Amercian Ninja 1&2 and also Bloodsport with Jean Claude Van Damme, I grew up on these films and even today even though the acting, script and direction aren’t great i still love watching them.
For me it is anyway, its his most playful set within the time of Glam Rock and unlike his other music based film I’m Not There, which over-rated for me, it seems to have been ignored as one of the best music films around. Many critics at the time i think made the mistake of literally wishing it was about David Bowie’s life, yes there are hints but it wasn’t attended to be accurate. Yes the story can get a bit complexed, but its a film you must watch a few times to really get the whole effect. Its a fun film not to be taken really seriously and has wonderful performances from Ewan McGregor, pre fame Christian Bale and a wonderful Jonathan rhys Meyers. If you haven’t seen it, go buy it cause its a great film.
Marq i understand you don’t like Velvet goldmine, its very much a love hate movie. I liked I’m not There especially with cath Blachett as she was the best thing about it for me. But Velvet Goldmine just has that spark for me with the way its shot and the performances overall. Especially with the great thom yorke singing a Roxy music song on the Soundtrack.
Has anyone seen this Film about the I.R.A hunger striker Bobbie Sands by Turner Prize winner and first time Director Steve Mcqueen. Its a tough watch and probably one of the toughest and grim movies ever, but its such a great movie with a brave and career making performance by Michael Fasssbinder, which deserved a Oscar nod. It won Sight and sounds film of the year and won a few awards for Mcqueen. The best British film and performance in years.
Seen as i’m Irish i taught The Wind That Shakes the barley was the better movie but thats not saying Land and Freedom wasn’t great cause along with Kes, these are my 3 top Ken Loach films. With top notch casting and two wonderful performances by Cillan Murray in The wind.. and Ian Hart in Land and Freedom. I just wanted to know which one was the greatest?
I’ve only seen one Dogme film and that was The Idiots and i enjoyed that. I just wanted you guys what are the best and worst of these Dogme films as i want to catch up on this filmmaking style.
Your right Fredo that was such a horrible film and it felt like Fincher was playing the Hollywood game with that one.
I love Godard’s work but Breathless was not as great as some made out.
