UNRELIABLE NARRATOR

Can't remember how I got into arthouse films hahah. Probably started with a more mainstream arthouse film like Memento or something. Yeah I have seen El Topo, which I enjoy for the craziness of it all. Sunday 18 April showing of Love Exposure for me. And yeah it is odd watching more explicit films with older audiences because you wouldn't normally watch with people around that age under normal conditions (like at home). I am on Facebook. I don't feel to weird about giving the link to my facebook. And if you turn out to be a weirdo I could always just do my best Ellen Page impersonation.

So how did you first get into arthousefilms etc.? Woody Allen eh? I've only seen two of his films, Everybody Says I Love You and the one he did with Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor, I forget the name, but neither film grabbed me. Still I should give the likes of Annie Hall a go before I wrote him off as 'not for me'. Incidently, are there any well respected arthouse directors that you don't care for? Have you seen El Topo? You gonna go to the first or second showing of Love Exposure? You not wrong about the art house scene being mainly populated with older westeners, remember seeing Lust, Caution at cinema in day, only myself and about a half dozen folks all around 60!! It was like watching a movie with my grandparents, and that wouldn't have been my choice of film to watch my Granny!! Anyway, would be cool to meet someone under 50 who is into something a little more interesting than Michael Bay blowing stuff up and spining the goddamn camera around nonstop!! You on Facebook? If you don't wanna give out anymore info to a stranger, sweet as, don't want to make you feel like you in Hard Candy or anything!!

Not racist at all. Just plain and simple fact haha. Most people into arthous films are generally older westerners. Teenagers and even young adults generally sway towards mainstream, so asian teenagers are doubly rare. Hanah-bi sounds pretty good; I will have to check it out sometime. A director I have recently gotten quite into is Woody Allen. The first film of his that I watched was Scoop (which was awful), but his older stuff is just beautiful. I plan to watch his 'Radio Days' or 'Match Point' next. The last arthouse film I watched was The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. I was expecting it to be underwhelming, but found it to be one of the most moving films I have seen in a very long time.

I'll keep an eye out for you then, of course if there is more than one Chinese guy there I guess I'll be sunk. Guess you could always look out for the Western guy instead!! Hope you don't mind me saying this, but it's quite rare to find an Asian guy into arthouse films. My girlfriend, shes' Japanese, is probably the only other Asian I've met that will even try anything outside of the mainstream, and for better or worse I guess I'm a large reason for this. I hope you don't think me racist for saying that. I suppose the argument could be made that most Westerners prefer mainstream movies as well, thats why they are MAINstream movies! Hope that makes sense in it's own weird way. As for Kitano, I'd probably recommend Hana-bi. It was the film he really seem to combine his humor, violence and beauty perfectly. I'd think if you don't like this then maybe Kitano is not your cup of tea. if you wanted just nice story with humor in it then Kikujiro, for more of a violent edge perhaps Violent Cop or Brother and for beauty then definity Dolls. Personally I've enjoyed all of his films except Boiling Point. Am disappointed his last two films were never even released over here.Hopeing to find them with english subtitles while in Japan. Hope that helps, be keen to hear your thoughts if you get any of his films.
