MR. Universe: Filmography

28 May 12
1981

Slight yet personal, Fun and heartwarming with a tinge of truth. The ups and downs of childhood when the things that aren't important feel huge. The things that matter are slight and you slowly get your priorities in order

Fahrenheit 451

I have to applaud the attempt. Trying to filma classic book is a challenge in of itself. While it doesn't completely succeed as it would be near impossible to make a bad film with great material especially if you are a gifted director. it feels a bit off and cold. Though the design and grandness of the production is amazing. Especially making it smaller when most would have gone for epic.

Wings of Desire

Ahead of it's time, i know about the film but still managed to be surprised and taken aback by it's soul and beauty. Though i will admiti probably loved the first half more then the second it was all around an amazing film. Itis my third wim wenders film and hopeflly won't be the last.

Mother's Day

I have to say this film was a rlevation. It is a reimagining as it is a bit different from the original film. Ii actually uses the story of a real home invasion mixedwith elements of the original story. Which makes it even more disturbing and bleak. Rebecca DeMornay gives a performance that is truly a comeback for her. It is a grusome film but more of a thriller then a horror film.

Fatso

Really enjoyed it more then i thought not spectacularly written or directed but it hit the right notes and had a story i could really identify with. I liked the film's frankness that would be hard to get away with in america and come off as intelligent and fun instead of juvenile and stupid. One of the few foreign films i wouldn't mind seeing a remake. Maybe a bit more emotional and funny

One from the Heart

I have to say the story is nothing special and kind of dull, the songs could be better and i say that as a tom waits fan. The filmis full of ideas and is amazing technically as it is all filmed on sets and feels realistic. almost like watching filmed theater. That is the only fascination that is to be had in watching the film. Though i give Francis Ford Coopola props for being a renassiance man

Damsels in Distress

Wonderful, Whit stillman movies are usually an aquired taste. This and Last Days of disco are hismost accessible films to begin with. As each film seems to bring him moreinto the mainstream. This is a slight but cute film that plays like a modern screwball comedy more comedy in dialogue then physical comedy. While thedialogue is very Hyperliterate.

Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel

So over the top.you can't help butlove it. It never wears out it's welcome. Becomes so insane at times you can't help bu thave a smile while shaking your head., Wondering what will happen next. A great revenge tale

Tiny Furniture

Different and Deadpan didn't like it as much as i thought i would, so far an original cinematic voice have to see if she has longevity. know many people like this, just not dealt with in the same way

The Rum Diary

The film was o.k but of course pales in comparison to the book. Though the film at least had a style and vitality at times. Definately offbeat At times it seemd stagey. Worth checking out.

The Chaser

Grade a thriller, Starts out dramatic then has you on the edge of your seat, Best to go in blind

A Single Girl

I remember becoming obsessed with seeing this film, because of the very striking photo of Virgine ledoyen that graces this very page, I didn't really enjoy the movie. I did like the fact that the film stays and focuses on her the whole time, I am not fan of the film, but am a huge fan of her and her career. She can still get me to see anything that she is in.

The Tree of Life

This film feels like a dream a recurring one. Personally i believe this film is Terrence Malik's Worst, but his most personal. Deeply Sincere, Don't get me wrong his worst is still miles above most others best work. This film just happens to be his most abstract and the one best experienced in a theater. Like 2001: A SPACE ODESSSEY. It's a classic that you have to be in the right frame of mind to watch.

Moneyball

It all seems so simple, but the film is actually really good and compelling without any visual tricks. The dialogue isn't magical and full of memorbale lines, The film just saysso much. the film shows why baseball is america's favorite pastime as most movies devoted to the sport have some kind of honor and are treated with a certain respect. It is also one of the few times where i was impressed by Brad Pitt's acting

Bellflower

I can't really explain this film completely. I understood the film to a certain point, but as with most films that are deeply personal. They are made to share a experience with an audience to understand them and there point of experience. Hoping it strikes a chord with the people wathcing it and hoping they can understand from a sinilar experience. I applaud the filmmaker for his film. Though i think i found the construction of the film more enjoyable then the film as a whole, but i will admit he has a hell of a point of view and look forward to his future films

Bellflower

Alot better then expected.

Incendies

Powerful, Layered storytelling. Unpredictable and incredibly rich. All this and heartbreaking too. Like a good book. You learn as the story goes along and connect the dots.

It's a shame such a good cast, But the story was nothing you haven't seen before though the third act did have it's share of surprises. Considering the talent involved it should have been better.

The Last Circus

Alex De La iglesia is back!!! Bcak to his sensabilities, He's done it again. He's made a clasic. A return to form from the dour OXFORD MURDERS. This film is Deranged, Original, Disturbing, Beautiful and hilarious. With touches of classic film. Never Boring continously entertaining. As well as bringing a new international screen siren to the screen. Not for everyone. definately a film and director i admire.

Miracle Mile

This is a gen of a film. IT's dated which hurts it but also adds to it's charm a film worht discovering. I like that there are many directions it could have gone but felt sure enough in it's story that it stuck to it's own points. The leads are unconditional but it makes it feel real. This was almost a twilight zone film. It is a depressing film, but the end feels More truthful.

When We Leave

Ultra depressing, hard to sit through. the film just seems cruel to this young woman and it keeps piling on the hardships. For no particular reason. it was like emotional torture porn. Well acted but still. It is a onslaught. Just a bit too much.

Hesher

I didn't want to like it at first. Seemd like another quirk fest, it slowly won me over. it marches to the beat of it's own heavy metal drummer. The film seems random but comes together in the end. It makes Hesher look like a messed up accidental life coach. Accolades all around especially levitt and Natalie portman who was actually good again

Once

I might be a little late. Waiting for all the hype to finally die down. I really liked it. I'm not heartless, This movie even got me all teary eyed. It is really good and scrappy. Filled with a rare innocence. A rare romance that get's it right
