Zyria, that was my reaction to Love on the Run when I first saw it. Then, when my daughter Sally gave me the Criterion set of the Doinel films, I began to reconsider and now it is one of my favorite Truffaut's. True, in form it is a mess, but it presents his most mature view of women. They are all real people, and none are the figures of mystery and magic that run throughout his work. If only cher Antoine were as grown-up as they. I hope he will reach adulthood and soon, as new new girlfriend is a gem. She is the perfect embodiment of my motto: Never underestimate the Cute Blonde!
Hi, Zyria. Thanks for fanning JVS. I had such a great time putting that one together. I had access to all his surviving films, including the ephemera, and had the time to see them chronologically. My favorites are The Docks of New York and Anatahan, though I could name a half dozen others that are also way up there. The very top of my lost film dream list is The Case of Lena Smith. I'd like to hear about the ones you like best. And while I'm asking, what do you think of Love on the Run? Stay well. Bob
