Monica Vitti, Anna Karina, and Hanna Schygulla would be my top three right now…. There are probably lots of beautiful actresses that I haven’t discovered yet though..
It would be nice to be able to approve comments BEFORE they show up on our wall. Not everyone may be concerned with this, so maybe it could just be an optional privacy setting.
Josh, I actually like almost everything I’ve heard by Part.. but I do love Spiegel Im Spiegel and Fratres as well. Also, Festina Lente, Für Alina, Tabula Rasa, Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten.. Another favorite is Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.
Jazzaloha: In early college I was really into noise music.. Never got real into Merzbow, but I loved Aube.. And Brighter Death Now, a little Genocide Organ, Whitehouse.. These days I need something more mellow, so I’ve been listening to a lot of Death in June.
Leah Marie: I love Blonde Redhead and My Bloody Valentine too.. along with Cocteau Twins.. They have a similar sound. Mmm besides film, music is my other obsession. I’ve gone through a million phases through the years, so now my taste is pretty broad and eclectic.
Tom: Brainbow and Times New Viking are two really good bands from Columbus, Ohio, that I recommend people check out.. :) Brainbow would appeal to fans of godspeed or mogwai… and I’d say Times New Viking is comparable to Sonic Youth at times..
Jazzaloha, wasn’t familiar with the term electro-acoustic improv until I looked it up.. Don’t think I’m listening to anything that would fit under that category, but it sounds interesting..
Death in June is dark folk.. often referred to as neofolk. My favorite album is Roseclouds of Holocaust. Other similar artists that I recommend are Current 93 (also folk) and les joyaux de la princesse (dark ambient/neoclassical).
Josh, I don’t know if I see Out 1 being released anytime soon, but I sure wish someone would! I haven’t seen it yet. I’ve actually only seen a few Rivette films, but I loved them all (Celine and Julie, la belle noiseuse, and la religieuse).
Scenes from a Marriage is awesome. I just got Day for Night from Netflix.. should be watching it today or tomorrow. Looking forward to it.. I’m on a Truffaut kick right now.. Can’t seem to find The Green Room though..
Amanda, how funny I was just going to recommend Bergman’s Trilogy of Faith films (Winter Light being my favorite) and Diary of a Country Priest. I saw Bresson’s film after Bergman’s, and I was reminded of Winter Light right away..
So far Fitzcarraldo.. but I still have a lot more to see by Herzog. Josh Ryan, you’re correct Fitzcarraldo was originally filmed in English because it was the most universal language of all the cast and crew. However, in the commentary Herzog said he prefers the German dubbed version over the original in English. That’s how I watched it too..
Rivette, Bela Tarr, Jean Eustache, Philippe Garrel…
I email Criterion at their “suggestions” email address every so often with recommendations.. I did recommend Wings of Desire earlier this year and that one came true at least. :)

I’m not sure it’s the ‘most erotic’ film I’ve seen, but a favorite is Louis Malle’s The Lovers.
