Why do some cats bow? I personally do not know. But you're asking me why. So I went and found a bowing cat and asked him. And this is what he said: "Where can you find bowing cats? I've never seen one." So obviously he doesn't know.
"There's more inspiration and humanity in defeat than in victory..."
Sasha Grey gives a much more enthusiastic and convincing performance in Cumfiesta.
This film is about a crazy Greek guy named Dimitris who is always yelling at everyone. In fact, it's like your average day at The Auteurs. Who says art doesn't imitate life? :)
Wir nicht von den Dingen wissen was wir nicht selbst in sie hineingelegt haben. - Immanuel Kant
Laughably bad.
I just re-watched this on a French DVD with a pristine transfer, and it's very clear that I was wrong to dismiss this film a few years ago on a first viewing. It isn't one of Triple H's masterpieces, but the film clearly works. And Shu Qi's long hair is a character in itself and turns in a phenomenal performance. I can definitely envision myself pulling on it from behind. And Shu Qi herself isn't too bad either.
There must be a reason as to why Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico Philosophicus pops into my mind when I watch this thing, but I haven't quite figured it out yet.
How I love this film. Maybe my all-time favorite Czech movie. Yeah, it's that good.
A poignant film about a beautiful sensitive black French family who loves their rice cooker. How can a rice-eating gook cinephile like myself resist this?
The best Iranian film I've seen so far from this millennium.
Kiarostami's best work of the last decade.
This is the kind of crap that makes me proud to be a self-proclaimed movie snob. Hollywood, go fuck yourselves, please.
Truth arrived at in an oblique peripatetic fashion is just so damn sweet.
Wow, nice! This is a very underappreciated little-known gem of a Korean film from the 80s.
It's about time this was added!
Jesus Christ, this shit sucks!
Mongol General: What is best in life? Conan: To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. This film gets two stars instead of one for the above dialogue and above dialogue alone.
I agree with Rudi and Gringo, this is my favorite Ozu as well. There is not a single wasted scene in it.
@ Ret and theauteurs.com. Thank you for replacing the still with a correct one. :)
Kevin Costner's Sioux name should be "Makes Crap-tacular Movies."
This film is retarded bad, but it does manage to make the homophobes it satirizes look even more retarded so I'll give it two stars instead of one.
This film should probably get one star, but I'm giving two more stars for each of Pam Grier's beautiful twins.
A bit underwhelming considering the hype and Koreeda's superior earlier works... But since the title of the film is derived from my all-time favorite Japanese karaoke number, I'll give it four stars.
What do you know, an actually watchable Hollywood action flick!
One of the best insights into the Japanese psyche ever captured on celluloid.
Everyone, repeat after me. "Ttong!" That means "shit" in Korean.
This sucks ass
"Er kommt mit der Stimme von Caruso." 'Nuff said.
I love you, man! Even though you make 30-something Korean men like myself look like a bunch of spoiled losers! :)
Kim Ki-young is a genius. Goryeonjang, Yangsan province, Iodo, Promise of the Flesh, Insect Woman, and The Housemaid are all masterpieces.
