Seijun Suzuki almost 3 years ago

I recommend you “KARMEN FROM KAWACHI”, “Tatooed life” and “Kanto wanderer” to start out… then “Story of a prostitute” and “Fighting elegy”. If you feel ready, then go to “Tokyo drifter” and “BRANDED TO KILL” off course… Then reach the stunning climax with the Taisho trilogy (for me specially “kagero-za”), “Pistol opera” and “Princess racoon”.

Karmen from Kawachi, Branded to kill and Kagero-za are three different kinds of poetics. Suzuki is one of the greatest creators of artistical sequences and alternative ways of representation

Bergman vs. Godard almost 3 years ago

It’s like comparing Rembrandt to Picasso in some way
Bergman= feelings, moral dilemmas, human condition, behaviors, dramaturgy… and the list goes on
Godard= art forms, political dilemmas, aesthetics/ethics, culture, essays on representation… and the list goes on

And sometimes they share these elements

FASSBINDER'S DESPAIR almost 3 years ago

Despair is a total masterpiece. Music by Peer Raben is unforgettable… Same effect as “M”… It remains in your head all the time. Images are hypnotic.

I make them just for fun… local people, random plots
Thanks for the thread

Overrated Movies almost 3 years ago

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, 2001, Old boy, Anything from Gondry and Wong Kar Wai =
they all look somehow for scandal and visual impact, staying only on the surface of things and inmediate appearances. Postcard shots. Their approaches to the human condition are dishonest and explotative.
