Gloria is fine! I’ve seen more annoying actors than that kid… it’s one of his late films that are not so GREAT (Big Trouble), and that’s when he got sick and the doctor told him he only had a couple of months to live – and then he made Love Streams! That’s what I started with… and it was great! Cassavetes is genious!
By the way there’s a pretty cool series with him staring a piano player who’s also a detective. Kind of a noir thing! ‘’Johnny Staccato’’ – doeas anyone has ony idea where can I get it?
Bobby, thnaks for the reply! I’m from Croatia… L.A. is a bit far away for me :)…
Well Eddie (is it a shop or a person) could be smart and transfer it to DVD! It’s a very easy thing to do… I found the VHS online to buy and I would but I don’t have anything to play it! Technology is just ruining everything

Hi all of you! posted something in here a while ago (and even then I wasn’t new to Cassavetes) but I had a question about a series that he acted in – ‘’Johnny Stacatto’’
well here’s the good news http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Johnny-Staccato-The-Complete-Series/14319
it’s coming out! on DVD! :)
oh and just to be at least in touch with the topic – Cassavetes is a God of cinema! Watched verything he did (recently his Columbo episode ‘’Etude in black’‘) and now I’m waiting for ‘’Johnny Stacatto’’
Oh, and I remembered – when I started with Cassavetes it was with ‘’Love Streams’’
there are no ending credits…
but the opening ones… blew me away! I could’ve got up from the theatre not watching the rest of the movie and claim that ‘’Enter the Void’’ is truly something revolutionary!
I was really excited about this MosFilm thing but haven’t watched anything yet because I was waiting for some recommendations. Apart from this website and two films posted (thank you very much)… doeas anyone have a film to recommend? or maybe if someone allready watched something good on mosfilm?
I’m so happy I found this topic on MUBI (where else :) ), although I’m kinda sad it’s dead now for 2 years. I’m doing a research on this topic and all this is very useful.
If you want a theoretical (critical) point of view on this subject here’s an idea:
Thom Andersen did a video essay on L.A. – ‘L.A. Plays Itself’ (title taken from a gay porn masterpiece by Fred Halsted). The documentary is 169 minutes long and goes through more than 200 films that have LA as a BACKGROUND, CHARACTER or SUBJECT. The whole film is available on youtube – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SNc41zyLJ0
@APURSANSAR – hi, you mentiond a couple of books on this topic. Could you write any of them down please. There are lots of ‘cinematic city’ books, but I’m looking for ‘cities as character’ theme. There’s one that I found ‘L.A. Noir: The City as Character’ but haven’t gone through it yet.
@GPENARANDA – hi, you posted a link to a list (you probably made) and I like to see it but the link is dead :(
glad to see Any WAy The Wind Blows here – one of my favorite movies
