Hello all. My name is Zane Cooper. I make films. I hate writing bios. They take a long time. Here’s a pretty decent one I wrote for my website:
Zane Cooper is a multi-faceted creator with backgrounds in theater, literature, music, and avant-garde
film. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder for a degree in Film Studies where he studied
under filmmaker Phil Solomon and author Bruce Kawin. While attending school, Zane also worked as a
film preservation technician at The Cinemalab, where he obtained an acute eye for color, consistency,
and quality of image. Like any true avant-garde filmmaker, he is producer/director/writer/editor of
all of his films.
Zane is also an actor with a foundation in live theater and improvisation. He has performed professionally
in both Denver and Los Angeles in improv shows and avant-garde theater productions.
His love of both theater and experimental film have crafted a narrative style that is unique and signature.
His current primary exploration is the relationship between new media and the mental digestion of the
single image. His new narrative internet art project The Digging Man wil investigate this idea in great
detail. The first installment of The Digging Man launches this year.
Filmmakers I love, in no particular order:
Sergei Parajanov
Ingmar Bergman
Andrei Tarkovsky
Bela Tarr
David Lynch
Krystof Kieslowski
Werner Herzog
P.T. Anderson
Abbas Kiarostami
Carl Th. Dreyer
Alfred Hitchcock
Stan Brakhage
Nathaniel Dorsky
etc.
I am heavily influenced by European cinema, but the American west lies at my heart. I’ll always be some sort of avant-garde cowboy.
