I love a lot of what Elisha Cook Jr did. He made even tiny roles really memorable. He was smoldering in Maltese Falcon.
Gian Maria Volonte comes to mind also. His work in For A Few Dollars More is eerie, poignant, frightening. Also loved him in Le cercle rouge.
