I remember watching this film countless times as a kid. Returning to it now after experiencing many of the best films cinema has to offer, it is still as good as i remember it. If that isn't a compliment i don't know what is. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves this is why we started watching films in the first place: the fun.
This film has ruined all others for me. How do i return to a regular film now without thinking it pointless, unconvincing and utterly trivial, after witnessing the majesty which is Baraka. I cannot. Baraka shows our world in all it's glory, all it's beauty and horror. This is all real and in stunning clarity. How can any fictional film ever hope to compare?
Any news on a Samsara release?
So, is this going to be available on DVD and Bluray? No news yet. Which is worrying...
Absolutely phenomenal. Some of the images are breathtaking. This is something that we all really need to see. Our impact on this world is quickly spiralling out of control, and we all need to realise this.
Admittedly more style than substance, and the violence seemed excessive, but there is something about this film that i truly loved. Perhaps the music and the atmosphere it helped to create are to thank for this as well as Gosling's performance. But i think it is more than that and Drive felt like a testament to what America is still capable of. Let's hope others take note.
An incredible slice of human life guaranteed to motivate and inspire you. I think everyone should see it at least once.
Incredibly thought provoking, inspiring and unlike anything i have ever seen.
Béla Tarr's sad farewell. It seems a huge triumph for cinema, but by his leaving is one last nail in it's coffin.
Such an odd little film with some very unnerving imagery. It's atmosphere alone more than makes it worth a watch.
Quite simply a masterpiece, and by far one of my favourite films. I hope the director has more in store for us.
A beautiful, wonderful film. But clearly you wont appreciate it unless you are a romantic or have the patience or state of mind ready to receive it.
Worth watching alone for the beautiful women, colours and the soundtrack.
I am sure this was a great film in it's time, but after watching it today i felt very underwhelmed.
I had no idea at all what was happening in this film, i do not see how it can be considered a masterpiece. It just seemed to be a series of incredible images with no real meaining behind them. Perhaps after another viewing i could make more sense of it, but i'm not sure it's worth it.
Absolutely incredible, especially the ending. Some scenes are so fascinating and some very moving. I dont think this masterwork seems to be getting the recognition it deserves here on Mubi. Which is a shame because i think a film like this is vastly more important and ever more relevant than the majority of films so highly regarded on here.
This is the first film of its kind that i have seen, what an incredible film. No idea how to get hold of other similar films. I wonder if a time will come again when films like this are made again.
Pleasantly surprised by this. Pleasant, nostalgic and Beautiful. Hou Hsiao-hsien is very close to being one of my favourite directors.
Really Beautiful and the soundtrack is incredible.
