Sure, Matt.
I love L’Herbier’s work mostly silen movies, and ’L’Argent’ (based on Zola’s novel and with a excquisite Brigitte Helm) and ’L’Inhumaine’. Technicaly superb, his camera mouvements, his ability to deal with time between scenes, he treatmente he does to black & white, he action he puts into sequences, all that makes him one of my favourites.

I didn’t know that Mizoguchi was his admirer. One silent of his also great is ’L’homme du large’ (http://filmsdefrance.com/FDF_L_homme_du_large_rev.html), with some very strange scenes, involving a guy lost between land and sea and …himself, shot with colors and some very nice close-ups.

What about Rupert Julian? almost 3 years ago
Another of my icons, the author of some of the best silents ever made, this site has to have records of his accomplishments.
(how can I publish photos and/or youtube flashes?)

Josh, thank you for the technical advices. I’ll try to learn and check…
Harry, I don’t think it’s a dreadful mess, dreadful mess are all the remakes (hello, Matt) were made, all around the years. Long lives Chaney.
