His first feature 'That Day, On the Beach', then 'A Brighter Summer Day' and 'Mahjong'!
A gift to those of my generation who have spend their teenage years watching the first 2 movies of the series over and over again. Good laugh, the right amount of nostalgia and lots of fun in rediscovering this classic gang!
Making a 800 000 $ short film to denounce overconsumption....yeah right!
Cinema-verite goes political and a key movie to learn about nations without country in general and Quebec in particular. Quebec politics and history crash course in 2 hours, while it also speaks about native and Bretons, and can relate to Scottish, Catalonia or or any region in the same situation. Available at http://www.onf.ca/film/un_pays_sans_bon_sens/ for free, but in french without subtitles.
BEtter then he Trumpet. Denis is good, as well as Figgis and Godard is as always mesmerizingly beautiful.
Wouldn't he be perfect to adapt an Haruki Murakami novel? This would be an awesome collaboration!!
One of the best director working today. Pity his films are barely available. What are you waiting for Criterion ?
I can't believe this has been selected at Venice Day (and Festival of New Cinema). It's a real joke full of plot holes, bad acting and bad directing....
An awesome film too ofter overlooked.
Wow! This is such a pity there is no Region 1 DVD of this marvel! Definitly Kaurismäki's best in my opinion. If you can somehow find this movie, give it a shot right away!
Good Altman, but does anybody knows what's the deal with all these cokes?
Nice makup on the page of a great director. Now just accept my Drifting States suggestion and he'll be in business!
I must say it is a very peculiar choice for the best british film of all time (recent Time Out London list compiled with directors, critics, etc,) but I doesn't mean bad at all, although I prefered Roeg's Walkabout. And does anyone else think that 1973's Donald Sutherland is the Vincent Cassel of today?
An expression that is use to often but get all it senses about him : best actor of his generation,
Boy this movie is so beautiful, human and deep. Worth every minutes. I wonder why I waited so long before watchin'it again.
Excellent Fassbinder with amazing camera work (especially 2 mindblowing shots). Definitly worth an attentive watch.
I also agree with others comments that Reygadas, Dumont or Dardennes made better Bressons film that he did. I surely greatly enjoy some of his films (Lancelot, L'argent or Pickpocket) but find them not as much as engaging as most of the movies from the directors above
After like a dozen watch, I can safely say it is one of Godard's best, long or short.
An ultra-cool hidden and long-time lost gem!
Watch this amazing film here legally and for free but without subtitles: http://www.onf.ca/film/bete_lumineuse/
Average movie with a less than average ending. That being my second Spike Lee movie after DTRT, I must say it is a MASSIVE let down.
I wanna move to Korea, add a couple of K's, Y's and G's to my name and be half as cool as the guys in Hong Sang-Soo movies. This is pure marvel!
Gotta admit that the caracter of Pierre AKA the great guy is depicts with remarquable accuracy. Great Rohmer!
What is cinema after all? For me it's the evocative power of the image. And on this term, Robbe-Grillet's Successive Slidings of Pleasure is unforgettable.
There's an Edward Yang retrospective at the Montreal cinematheque.....considering that I've only seen Yi Yi, wich one should I look after ?
His first feature 'That Day, On the Beach', then 'A Brighter Summer Day' and 'Mahjong'!
I hope this feature a soundtrack by the Sonic Youth album of the same name..!!
The cinematography really saves the film. Not bad, but could have use some more work on the screenplay and cut a bit loose on the massive (auto) reference. Still, it would have been nice that a collaboration between Lynch and Herzog would be more...
Can't wait to see this anticipated masterpiece on the big screen in 8 days in the presence of the big man, Jodorowsky himself!!!!
« Big Money goes around the world Big Money underground Big Money got a mighty voice Big Money make no sound Big Money pull a million strings Big Money hold the prize Big Money weave a mighty web Big money draw the flies » Was I the only one thinkin of this Rush song once the movie was finished?;)
As far as masterpiece goes, this is one of the most important.
Amen to what Joey said. Elevators to the Gallows was 2 years before 400 Blows and Breathless....who was jealous for not having him an equal of Godard or Truffaut?
