Harry dean Stanton is a major stand out for me from Paris,Texas to his Lynch appearances…another huge vote for JK Simmons who will forever be engrained in my as Shillinger on Oz
Kill your Idols
Scott Walker: 30 century man
Jandek on Corwood
Made in Sheffield
Sun Ra: Space is the Place
Buddy Rich : from the top
Ken Burns’ JAZZ
Reggae: a jamaican story
still need to watch Salo…the trailer alone is worth seeking out
I’m finding it harder to sit and watch the recent French horror wave…Matyr,Inside and the like…just absolute brutality throughout and there were some scenes in Inside that raised the bar for what I can tolerate in a film.
naomi is DEF. the finest actress in film today IMHO ( besides the always amazing patricia Clarkson) but Mitchell is great. She was actually good WITH Clarkson in High Art…Truth is I haven’t really seen her in much else besides Melinda/Melinda and Pitch Black
Fincher’s Zodiac is unbelievable! I true gem…tough question because every director no matter how great their previous films hold up always have bombs…
I would say a tie between Todd Solandz and Wes Anderson simply because they just don’t make enough films…you’re only as good as your last films and both kind of missed the boat with me on their previous efforts.
the Toronto Public Library is amazing for harder to find gems including the more popular Criterions…finest example of their system would be a film like Performance which they have about 15 copies and only 3 holds. remarkable :D
also the Clearwater library in Florida has the most Criterions ive ever seen in one spot outside of an indoe videostore…simply an untapped resource!!
just an interesting take on an otherwise superfluous genre…it was suspensful even with the comic book like virus plot. Keep in mind too this is the first Bruce Mcdonald film I’ve actually seen…
I think that’s why it stands out for me and I enjoyed it—because it was far fetched but DID exist in the world he set up…I thought the lead was incredible and I completely bought into his character

Top 10 Films of the 80's almost 3 years ago
SO manty have been mentioned so far and it actually makes it easier for me to narrow it down some…
Raging Bull
Blowout
River’s Edge
Videodrome
Paris,Texas
Ran
Blue Velvet
Brazil
Wild at heart
TIE: Robocop/Die Hard
tough to narrow it down…felt like I had to include some typically influencial “80’s” stuff.

the only movies that won’t stand the test of time are the ones based on SNL skits. Or ones where people get hit in the balls a lot.
