One of the best Italian Westerns ever made, in my humble opinion. Well-written, solidly acted, superbly scored, and deftly directed!
Easily one of my most favorite Asian films of recent years, if not of all-time. It is, indeed, emotionally manipulative (something I wish more films were!) and it is heavy on the melodrama; but, that is what makes it great , in my humble opinion.
It isn't nearly as haphazard, convoluted, or slipshod, as most folks make it out to be. But, that isn't to say JONAH HEX is what I'd call good, either. I thought is was entertaining. Even, though it had little to do with the character I grew up loving via the 70's DC's comics. As a collection of missed-by-a-mile opportunities it truly excels! As a nonsensical action flick--it sort of half works...almost...
Takumi Furukawa's KENJU ZANKOKU MONOGATARI is a terrific, timeless, tense thriller that no self-respecting Japanese Cinema fan should pass up the chance to see. Think THE KILLING and THE ASPHALT JUNGLE filtered through ultra-cool, wrap-around 60's Tokyo sunglasses--and you might begin to get an idea of what this film has in store for you. This is Nikkatsu Action cinema at its finest!
