Films that are better than the books that they are are based on almost 5 years ago

“Crash” by David Cronenberg is one of my favorite films. The Ballard’s book is just… cheap literature.

True, T. I didn’t see the things you say in the Ballard book. Perhaps “cheap” was the wrong word… I prefer Burroughs and his imaginery.

Harold Lloyd’s “Girl shy”, a masterpiece. Great performances, great script, great mise en scene. Just great.

I have a few to add…

“Nausicaa” by Hayao Miyazaki (one of the greatest jobs of this genius)
“When the wind blows” by Jimmy Murakami (deep, nostalgic and poetic)
“Beauty and the beast” by Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale (Disney in best shape)

Book vs. film over 3 years ago

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy very good versions of the book.
Pride and Prejudice a totally brilliant masterpiece of literature turned in trash by Joe Wright.
The Portrait of Dorian Gray never has a something similar to a remote good version in cinema.
Madame Bovary thigtly adapted by the master Chabrol.
Crash by Cronenberg much better than Crash by Ballard.
Farenheit 451 a classic of literature, a mediocre film from Truffaut.
Great version of Hamlet by Tony Richardson. Good by Kaurismaki. Poors by Olivier, Zeffirelli, Branagh, Almereyda…
Interview with the Vampire tie with the novel, with the author in charge of the script.
The Phantom of The Opera not well adapted for the cinema until now.
The Music of Chance. Better the book than the film.
Short Cuts by Altman better than that short stories of Carver.
