most overrated oscar performances or robberies over 3 years ago

Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan. That was Miramax wining and dining the Academy- Harvey Weinstein bought that Oscar.

You might need to force refresh. I’m copying a helpful post from WordPress below. Let me know if it works!

Someone just told you to “force reload” your browser to fix something and you’re wondering what on earth they could possibly mean. Fear not! Depending on your operating system all you need to do to accomplish such a thing is the following key combination:

  • Windows:ctrl + F5
  • Mac:apple+r
  • Linux:f5

Glad you like the layout. The ads… yeah. I don’t like them either. They are a step towards breaking even for the company. We are working hard to have cooler ads in the future, and even better, to find a different way to monetize altogether. Let me know if you have ideas!

What IS Cinema? over 3 years ago

The Auteurs is listening! I’m writing from the office. What’s etiquette here? I will begin a new forum to continue the thumbs up/down discussion so we can get back to the original topic of the post. Let me know if my guess on etiquette was off target.

THUMBS UP THUMBS DOWN- love it or hate it? over 3 years ago

Continuing the discussion that started in Nathan’s “What is Cinema?” post. http://www.theauteurs.com/topics/154/comments

Below is a recap of where we were. What’s your 2 cents?

i think Auteurs.com should get rid of the thumbs-up/thumbs-down option. the threads where we see a string of thumbs-downs (which I still find hilarious, in that funny-sad sort of way) are latent proof that having an up-down system helps propagate this milquetoast idea that people don’t need to share their opinions or actively argue or criticize, people don’t need to express WHY they like or dislike, “because it’s easier to hide behind an icon we can click on!!”

the option promotes cowardice.

What is funny about that thread is the fact that I get two thumbs up of for simply saying “I dig it” & quoting your words, while you get thumbed down for one hell of a brain-pickin’ essay.

& then Luis says “Extreme amounts of fun” & the crowd goes wild!
*
yeah i’ve raised the issue before with the auteur peeps about the state of the anonymous thumbs and its negative impact! they said they’d look into it, but still haven’t seen any action taken towards it … 3 months later …

Hey i could’ve said loads of fun. I guess people just go crazy for extreme. But i must concur with y’all for i too despise the anonymous thumb down. But kid come on you know you liked extreme amounts of fun. LOL:)

2 cents.. We’ve been through this a million times. Red thumbs are for wankers. If someone thumbs red, they are spitting at you without ever telling you why. I sense that the red thumber harbors resentment to eloquence or opinion without needing to expose themself. They are active in the creation of hostility and bullying.

What is it makes people on the internet think they can behave like pricks, when in real life they would shit their pants rather than wave their hand in someone’s face and dismiss them? You tube syndrome. Ah, the courage of the nerd.

That said, the best people on this site have a high red thumbs count. So I take it as a badge of honor. No making omelette without breaking eggs.

Do you guys like the thumbs up/down for reviews and blog posts? Are forum posting the one place where they are awkward?

Why does it crash at minute 48 when you watch a film here? over 3 years ago

Hi Valentina, can you try to watch one of the shorter movies, like Little Terrorist? I want to see if it’s the film length that’s somehow making it crash.

Also, what movie where you watching and where are you located?

Thanks,
Melissa

Hi All, don’t forget that I proposed to identify people who slash and burn with a string of red thumbs. You never reacted. What do you think of that idea?

What if you could see how many thumbs up to thumbs down you give?

If anyone goes through giving only thumbs down and never comments, we could have a word with them.

David, thanks for getting this off to a great start. I have a long wishlist of features I’d like to add to the site, but I want to prioritize the ones you (the people on The Auteurs) find valuable.

Free films! over 3 years ago

More films are coming to the UK! Check back in a week or 2, we just received them at the office.
Distributors offer us their films either for free to be shown with ads (right now we have the Christmas Tale trailer), or they offer them for pay. We are working hard to get many more films!

Wong Kar-Wai over 3 years ago

I just sat through MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS when I was on a 17 hour flight. Wow. What a terrible movie. Who was the idiot that cast Nora Jones as the lead? She’s more monotone than a 65 yr old middle school chemistry teacher. She would not even make the cut to sell toothpaste on an infomercial.

I love every other wkw movie I have seen, but this one is a real disaster. Do not bother, I enjoyed the terrible Hollywood teen comedies playing on the flight more than MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS.

Here! The movie that made me fall in love with “good” movies was The Double Life of Veronique. What a beautiful movie- it made me think and think about the paradoxes for weeks. Now my favorite movies tend to be beautifully shot (I love the Wong Kar-wai Christopher Doyle combo), though I always fall for a good Hitchcock murder mystery.

The Auteurs Film Club over 3 years ago

This is a great idea! Danny and I will work on adding a home for the film club in the community page. Danny, loop me in to the discussion, and everyone, please feel free to ask for any sort of support you might need. We can work on creating a custom widget- we can do the photoshop and add functionality- perhaps it can update to show the name of the film of the month. Let me know what you’d like!
