Well, I'm in love with this woman, so naturally there are a lot of favourites: Afgrunden because it was her first, In dem großen Augenblick, Der fremde Vogel, Die Filmprimadonna, Engelein (what a great comedy), Zapatas Bande & Das Liebes-ABC, Der Reigen, Hamlet and Der Absturz. And her own documentary film Asta Nielsen (1968). I mean to check out Torben Skjødt Jensen's documentary The Talking Muse as well (it's on my DVD wishlist :)

Hello Stephany. I am very interested in the German career of Betty Amann who was honored in 1987 for her contribution to German film. Now, I have only seen Asphalt and an excerpt from Der Weisse Teufel, leaving about a dozen more films made in Germany during a period of four years. Can you tell me anything about these films that would explain why a relative small body of work was deserving of such an award? Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Bob
Hello Stephany, I have been enjoying your blog postings immensely. You have a great understanding of the films of the "classic" Hollywood era. While you and I don's always see eye to eye about specific films, your reviews are alway interesting and insightful. I hope to read more. For me, Lubitsch is the Master. And I am also interested in the nature of Stardom and why many superb actors just aren't, and probably never will be, stars. I'm sure you have some interesting thoughts on this matter and would be glad to hear them. Bob
