SUMMER OF SAM (1999) Dionna: “I am a slut? You’re calling me a slut? You lowlife piece of shit- you fucked- my- cousin! You didn’t think I knew about that! I smelled her pussy juice all over your fuckin’ face! You fuckin’ sick bastard! How dare you? And all this time I’m thinking there’s something wrong with me. You perverted sick fuck!”
Not intentionally, but the short answer is: yes. definitely. It was meant to be De Palma and Stone’s serious gangster epic, but it fails and Pacino fails (I remember learning that his accent switches at least five times from pseudo-Cuban Spanish, to NYer, to god knows what conglomeration of surmised and supposed authentic accent that he concocted). Where I live, young people take this film all to seriously, emulating its gangsterisms in the hopes of one day getting to be the big dog in the ’hood. Although I too thought this film was great and so cool as a teen, I grew up to see it as a total and complete farce that stereotypes Cubans to the detriment of society as a whole.
Sharon Stone’s character in “Casino.” Not sure why DeNiro’s character wanted to “attain” her so badly in the film, especially after all she did to him.

…one last thing: even though it is campy and farcical, the film does make some interesting points about the American dream, etc.
