A truly beautiful film whose moment of catharsis hit me like a ton of bricks. It does not simply explain the characters' relationships, but lets them slowly bleed into our understanding. Not a simple movie, but a simply humane movie. One of the greatest films of the past 20 years.
This movie has made it nearly impossible for me to look at Dylan Baker without thinking, "Serial Rapist Pervert."
This is my favorite film because it was the film that really opened up the process of filmmaking to me, and it is a film whose depth of imagery is still plundered today (see: Coppola's Dracula, Spike Lee's She Gotta Have It). I made a short review of the film here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RthJLZjMR84
