Still my favorite Tarantino film. I'll never forget the 1st time I saw it, we laughed thru the entire thing! Saw it 4 subsequent times - wanted to make sure all my friends saw it too!
I consider this to be the absolute worst popular film of the 90s. Bad direction, bad dialog ("Oh man, what're you doing w/a gun in space??"), bad acting, bad pacing & ESPECIALLY bad editing, sound & film. Every cliche in the books is thrown at you, the characters aren't even ONE dimensional & Aerosmith records what just may be the worst song of their history. I just dunno why this one got a Criterion release...
Contains Brando's finest performance - esp in the scene where Paul talks to his dead wife. Not exactly the type of film I'd watch repeatedly but every time I do, Brando is just astounding.
An incredible piece of acting, 1st time I saw this I was just shaken. You wonder how far down a man can sink & then it gets WORSE. I always thought that Ken Kelsch's camera made me feel like the Grim Reaper following the Lt around. Might be Keitel's finest performance. It's almost too bad it's in a film that makes you feel filthy after you watch it.
One of the absolute best documentaries I've ever seen. You'll be mesmerized about just how much trouble & drama surrounded the making of Apocalypse Now, Coppola ran into every type of bad luck possible, much like Terry Gilliam did when he tried to make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote a few yrs ago. BTW, watch the documentary about that one too, Lost in La Mancha (2002).
Saw it in Manhattan when it was re-released in 2007 - prob the best movie experience I've had yet! Image was flawless & the sound was just amazing!
Still a great film after 20 yrs (oh man, has it been THAT long???). Maybe a bit long, could've been trimmed by about 10 mins. Also wish there wasn't so much praise for DH 2, which is still junk!!
One of the greatest performances, ranks up there with Bette Davis in All About Eve, Marlon Brando in Last Tango, DeNiro in Taxi Driver, Marion Cotillard in La Vie En Rose, performances where the actors have me convinced they've become someone else.
