Syntax error : considering the fact that it provokes them Should be : even though it provokes them
Disappointingly predictable - also seemed fast-paced and barely scratched the surface of some incredible plot-openers (Nazism , sado-masochism , corruption) ; wanting to instead shed light on the intriguing character of Lisbeth Salander played with brilliance by the gorgeous Rooney Mara.
Horrible , excruciatingly arrogant and clueless as to what it tries to achieve.
This is the Garrel I'm talking about
Sauve-toi, Garrel !
A proof of the power of insulation in film. Michael is one of the year's best first efforts, reminiscent of the works of Spielmann, Boony and of course Haneke.
Why does everybody possess intense feelings of hate towards such a film ? It may be subversive, yes, but I don't get in what way it offends its' viewers, considering the fact that it provokes them, which isn't a crime. The haters bought on publicity to the film so that I can withhold it's current cult following, but I don't think the film deserves it.
What I found extraordinary in Scorsese's feature was the first-time usage of such a distilled, gothic and exasperatingly distant approach to the thematic, which allows it to transcend into such an absorbingly atmospheric film, also thanks to it's eerie music and it's beautiful nightmare sequences that include the unforgettable frozen bodies , artfully displayed at Dachau. One of the few Scorseses I actually enjoyed.
Raymond Radiguet's 'Le Diable au Corps' is translated into a classic tale of erotic empowerment and perversity - far from being Bellochio's best feature though.
Nazi sexploitation at it's fullest outgrown potential - sadistic, erotically overcharged, and increasingly cruel.
Drastically over-the-top, extremely tasteful and monumentally glittery. Beautiful ? Yes. Profound ? Nah.
Humanity does evolve, but it's animal instincts attest only of the strength and plenitude of their emotions. I'd hate to throw words in the likes of 'brutal','transgressive' or 'unbearable' to describe this unforgettable experience. If anything, Noe wrote a poem. An hymn to love and the faith in humanity, and a letter of despair directly pointed at time and destiny.
I do carry a symbols dictionary each time I want to view any of his shorts, but they are deductively enthralling and captivating .. Especially 'Masquerade'.
A frustratingly weak effort - what's the main point of Ang Lee's film ? Surely, it couldn't be a kaleidoscope of hippie life and liberalism in the 60s, they are simply portrayed as grass hoppers who get naked and wander like some Down's Syndrome 18 year-olds.
Honoré constructs his characters' psychology and development through Nouvelle Vague stereotypes- they aren't mirrors of reality but rather of 60s French cinema characters. Their melancholy is childish, they clearly don't know what they're doing - and even though the actors do such a great job in most of Honoré's film - their characters remain pastiches. 'Dans Paris' lacks in maturity what it gains in 'homage'.
There is something bewilderingly absurd in Gustav Deutsch's definition of cinema, a definition that is fully explored in this extremely original collage.
Where can I find this ?! :/
Love conquers all ? Yes, it does, yes it does.
'Cold Showers' contains one of the most amazing sex scenes in cinema history !
A vigorously optimistic film about sexual relationships and the research of the identity of love- Like an accompaniment to Eric Rohmer's 'Comedies et Proverbs'. The ending though is contradictory to the rest of the film- are the protagonists punished for their unlawful actions after all that's been beautifully said about swingers ?
Senses of life and sensibilities of the human soul - 'Senso' is a double meditation on vivid nationalism and destructive passion. In both, it exceeds norms by delivering lush dialogging, incredibly melodramatic performances and jaw-dropping visuals.
Quite nearly a joke. How utterly disappointing, considering the greatness of the source material.
A compelling meditation on transcendent love and madness, art and repressing emotions.
Fincher often pursues derivative style from post-modernist sync and MTV alternative videos of the nineties but 'Zodiac' has gotta be his best effort yet since he correlates savoir-faire with atmospheric and controlled cinematography. Probably the only film of his I appreciated, along with few segments of The Social Network, a irreproachably overrated film.
Where can I find this online !?
A bittersweet love song to sauvagerie, madness and excess
Dimitris is right, this does look a lot like Dogtooth
Verhoeven at his finest !
I have just finished watching the Terayama segment and it's absolutely stunning.. I had downloaded the Borowczyk long time ago, but didn't felt it was as good as the rest of his filmography. Still gotta see the last segment, I am absolutely unfamiliar with the director
Effective, hypnotic and highly stylized propaganda, Just the way Terayama makes 'em.
Mythological minimalism, transcending all the aspects of human misery along the road. Such an emotionally drastic gem.
