L'enfance nue

I love films about childhood, but this one struck me particularly hard due to some uncomfortable parallels with my own childhood. Despite Francois' obviously troubled and delinquent nature, and the fact that he did some downright disgusting things, there was a certain warmth and humanity to him that made the film come off as extremely sincere.

Oh and yes, I agree entirely about The Wayward Cloud. Strange and charming both! I showed part of it to my roommate and he got all put off and confused by it. Don't know what the guy's problem was! ;)

I think this film was at its best when the angels meandered about Berlin listening to the thoughts and desires of its people and acquainting the viewer with its sights. It was almost like a fictional…  read review

Cyclo

Cyclo is a gritty, yet very human, poetic, and often strikingly beautiful picture of urban squalor and violence. The only things preventing it from being near-perfect are the not-so-subtle, out-of…  read review

Gosh! This was my first Shimizu film, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I went in thinking it would just be a mild, fun diversion to watch after something heavier, which is actually the reason I picked…  read review
