Sad, sweet, touching, and poignant. This film has everything from extraordinary writing to top-notch performances to pitch-perfect directing. My favorite film this year so far.
An extraordinary film that completely lived up to my expectations and more. Aronofsky proves to be one of cinema's most talented and versatile filmmakers.
With all of the problems I have with this film -- as a fan of the character ever since I was little, I still love it. Singer got some things completely wrong (the biggest that Luthor is almost a complete waste), but it still has all of the iconic imagery that makes Superman the ultimate superhero that he is. I have high hopes for Snyder and Nolan's attempt.
A magnificent film. Had the pleasure of seeing it twice at SXSW. Gareth Edwards is a true talent. One of the best films of 2010.
Hard to pick just one Thomas, but I'd probably go with High and Low. Ikiru is also amazing.
A truly stellar piece of art. Unbelievably ahead of its time. I long for the day that the film gets cleaned up, remastered, and released in high definition.
I love A Detective's Story the most. Such great style, but all nine are superb.
Thank you Mubi for putting this on here. And great image as well. Would love to see this get a remaster someday.
Three stars. A solid film with some great acting and nice cinematography, but the story just felt a tad too, "been there, done that" for my tastes, which was the biggest disappointment. A terrific final act (even if we all figured out the twist while watching the trailers), but for a thriller or this kind, the first 100 min offered little reward as the plot unfolded. In other words, the payoff was just too late.
Not nearly as bad as the reviews are making it out to be. I've seen FAR worse, but it's still ultimately a failure in most respects. Two stars.
A true cinematic masterpiece, and I don't use the phrase lightly. Without diminishing the rest of the film, the final act is an immense triumph of cinematography, editing, and sound design. The Final Cut is by far the best way to experience it.
Abysmal. The first was bad, but tolerable. This was just everything wrong with the first installment and amplified. One of the worst films of 2009.
I agree with Christopher. Beautiful film that started off a little strange, but eventually found its path. I also loved Chang's character.
Remarkable how much Wong matured from his first film to his second. Loved the ending as well. I'll go so far as to say it works better without having any knowledge of the next two films in the trilogy.
The train sequence is one of my absolute favorites of all time. A tremendous example of the power of cinema, and the genius that is Hayao Miyazaki. It's breathtaking.
I really wanted to give this film four stars, but to be honest, I probably wouldn't have given it much thought if I hadn't known it was from Wong Kar-Wai. Still, As Tears Go By has a lot going for it. Nothing extraordinary, but a solid first effort from a true master of cinema.
Brilliant and scary. I've been keeping a list of films I've seen my entire life, and made sure that #1000 would be something monumental and classic, and I chose this. Wasn't disappointed. A landmark film that truly inspires.
Scorsese's absolute best film. Severely underrated.
While I appreciate the original King Kong from 1933, I actually enjoyed yours quite a bit more. In this time where we're oversaturated with remakes, are there any that you feel improved (however significantly) on an already good film?
