I don’t mind the name change as long as the website’s commitment to film authenticity is kept untouched.
But please take these friendly advices:
- It doesn’t seem to mean anything even after you stop to think about it. It reminds me of “movie”, but it stil feels odd because “movie” doesn’t describe everything that the website represents (besides the fact that it is somehow related to films in general).
- The name MUBI doesn’t fit well to a website with such serious content because It sounds childish, like a “pokémon” website’s name.
- Is it an abbreviation? Is it half a word? Is it related to something i’m not aware of? I don’t know, it just feels strange.
- If you search MUBI on google you will find a big number of other websites or services (related or not with films) carrying the same name.
- It doesn’t instantly reminds you of anything that belongs to the universe of filmwatching or filmmaking.
- It doesn’t stick to your mind because there are millions of other internet things (services, blogs, nicknames, websites, tools…) with names that sound something like it.
