Ana; you are right of course. Both deal with fragmented memories. I see it as a vast difference in style. In my personal view Proust's technique is long and rambling and inconsequential. It is exhausting. He seems to want to bludgeon us into believing he is a "writer". Marienbad seems to inviegle. Proust seems to insist. Marienbad seems to hypnotize. Proust seems to put us in a stupor. Marienbad seems to be concise, fluid, and have a perceptible arc. Proust seems like the Great Wall of China. Great, perhaps, but only because of its size. If you are a Proust lover I'm sure you will disagree with me, so don't take my remarks personally please.
about your comment on Marienbad -- can you explain to me why do you think it doesn't have a proustian feel to it? he tries to recapture the fragmented past through the operation of involuntary memory that something can, by random chance, trigger. isn't this a common thread to both things?
