While it never really is the masterpiece some claims it is, I think this one deserves 5 stars just for being what it is; a fantastic, influential, funny, intelligent and poetic piece of cinema. James Whale did better with the sequel. Still, Karloff's performance is something. One of the finest films of the Universal Horror era.
