Nostalghia

the most idiosyncratic and uncharacteristic of tarkovsky films. the usual themes are here such as religion, the soviet artist, however the nostalgia for a homeland enters here too. the long take is taken even further with some lovely meditative periods. the script by guerra and tarkovsky is sensational. two auteurs working at their peak. this is the first western by tarkovsky and as always, a pure masterwork.
