On La Faulx's Wall
Thanks! If you poke through Japanese folklore, you'll find some unique imagery and supernatural beasts that stem from Shinto and Buddhist stories. Tomu Uchida's "The Mad Fox" (1962), for example tells the tale of a silver fox who repays a debt to a fortune teller by taking on a human form -- the twin sister of his slain lover. "Jigoku" which I see you've already got on your watchlist has imagery that reflects the Zen Buddhist notion of hell. There are lots more that have yet to be explored on film!
