On JB's Wall
Ha, I'm surprised that you've heard of my hometown, small as it is. I only wish it was as exotic as it sounds (it often gets run down by folks, perhaps rightly so sometimes - though it's a stone's throw from London, so win-some-lose-some!). Sounds like a delightful kitchen-based action too: "take a spoon and briskly 'ipswich' the eggs in a bowl, leave to set before 'suffolking' in some flour..." I may move to London in the next few years - esp. as the last art cinema has just closed. Bloody recession. Boo-hiss-boo... "Deliciously promiscuous" - nice one. Erratic would be another. I've been kind of adding with abandon - maybe a close re-look/cull is required, but I do love each title for a multitude of reasons. Compiling top lists of these things is always tricky... I'm fuming (comically) with envy that you've seen 'Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles'. Been trying to catch that one for years. That good huh? I heard it's getting/had a Criterion release. I'm hoping so anyway. Like your list here a lot. So many ace selections... I wish I could sound all clever and say that the photo was deliberately inspired by the Eno cover, but I hadn't actually heard of that album! Darn it, there goes that slice of street cred...
What about all-time favourites - which would they be from your list? Good meeting you JB.
