Cliffhanger About
Cliffhanger

The White Hell of the Rocky Mountains. As usual, Harlin fails utterly to understand rhythm and character, but, also as usual, he creates several amazing setpieces. The Rockies become some Gothic horror mountains, complete with yawning, black chasms, swarms of bats, and artificial stalagmites, in which Stallone must overcome his guilt. Idiotic film, but truly enjoyable.

Also one of the best trailers of its time too. You could never get away with something like that now. I was mesmerised by it as a 14 year old Sly fan ;-)

Jack, i still remember when i first saw that trailer. the audience reaction was unlike anything i'd ever seen before. People were just stunned. and then suddenly a patron broke the silence with 'that looks fucking awesome' and everybody just laughed in agreeance. The movie has lost its edge over time, but if you were into action films in the early 90's, it felt cutting edge. Harlin in general felt like that to me. I loved Die Hard 2 at the time. He was later surprassed by others of course, but him and Tony Scott were the edgiest guys in town back then hehe

a patron broke the silence "that looks fucking awesome" ahahahhaha. that's hilarious. I don't think film aged that badly. The set-pieces still haunt me and i've seen a shitload of films ever since. I think it's underrated and despised because Sly is Sly. Too bad tho.
