About
L'avventura
Antonioni’s most famous film, also one of his most cryptic, and the one I just happen to hold the most reservations over. Following the psychological dilemmas that unfurl after a girl travelling with a group of upper-class holiday-makers mysteriously disappears while sailing around an uninhabited island, the piece seems to take on a metaphor for bourgeois ennui; yet even upon multiple dissections, such meanings prove to be unfulfilling, simultaneously intriguing and puzzling.
