We Need to Talk About Kevin

Regrettably, as a fan of Ramsay's work, I found the film to be rather indelicate, even hamfisted, in its execution. As per usual, Swinton was excellent, though John C. Reilly had no business in this film. And Ezra Miller offered a far more nuanced and unnerving portayal of a kid sliding into madness in Antonio Campos' Afterschool. Though I'm pleased that Ramsay is once again working and garnering exposure, I lament the fact that this film, her third, wasn't The Lovely Bones, which Ramsay would likely have interpreted to devastating effect, had not Peter Jackson bought the rights out from under her.
