I agree with your comments on the SIGHT & SOUND best films list. In fact they're the only comments on that thread even remotely applicable to what film's role in society is, or can become. Yet another reflection of global 'big power' politics in the media, however we'd be pretty naive not to have expected same. They could have been rating Best 19th Century War Memorials. However it would be worse yet if people despair completely. Time to make even better art, and then better still.
