Re-edit this film in chronological order, something I've considered doing as an exercise on narrative structure for my students, and the story becomes rather pedestrian. It's the non-linear structure that fascinates us, distracts us with trying to piece the film together. Without that distraction you would realise the dialogue, the characters and the visual storytelling are fairly one-note, blah. Clever but empty.
