Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Kubrick's concise satire of what really was the most ridiculous situation in the world. Annihilation of the other is the ultimate goal, even at the highest prices. Well shot and directed, but even better performances. I think the weakest character is Dr. Strangelove himself, but even he has moments of great fun. The subject matter and technical mastery render it a socially important film, maybe even more than 2001.
