Holly-motors About
Holy Motors

An unbearable & traumatic, devastating work of despair, a haunting film of rage—rage against life, against death, against love, cinema, people. A film I'll never see again, from my favorite director, which confirms my worst impressions of Pola X & Merde. A director once defined by love, now by despair. Carax after '92: like if Vigo had lived—had lived a life of tragedy and put it in his films.

I agree with almost everything you said, but despite--or perhaps due to--the pain that Carax has on display, Holy Motors seems instantly vital. This is not a film to come back to on a regular basis, but this is true of many of the best films.

It's true that while I'm troubled by what the film conveys about life and cinema, and find his attitude to digital reactionary, new Carax is still more important than all but a handful of things.
