Love and Death on Long Island

If you love a movie that causes questions, debates and Mulholland Drive-esque point of view, then this is definitely worth checking. Inspired by Gilbert Adair (a famous critic from England)'s short novel, Kwietniowski (maybe more well known here for his film Owning Mahowny) tells a long journey of an English intellect Giles De'Ath to American in order to meet and utter his feeling to a small movie star Ronnie Bostock (maybe his movies are just like American Pie the sequels), played by one-time gorgeous actor Jason Priestley. The film feels like a circle, where the ending could be the beginning, and the contrary, but still creates an unexplainable mystery. It also does eloquently and affectingly explore Giles's situation. ''Ronnie, there's nothing more solitary than an artist's life,'' he finally explains. ''One yearns for solace without quite knowing where to look for it.'' Indeed.
