The Conformist

Of all Bertolucci films I love -- Last Tango, 1900, Last Emperor, Stealing Beauty -- The Conformist is the one I can watch over and over and over, and be wowed every time. The script, the acting, the fractured narrative, Storaro's cinematograpy. What is not to love. It is truly a work of art, which manages to encompass all the other arts as a matter of course. In true late 60's/early 70's style, an anti-hero is the star, whom we loathe at the end. It is edgy, classy, and very inspirational.
