সমালোচকদের রিভিউ

While Tokyo may not have physically exploded upon the film’s release, Akira is still unsettlingly powerful and prescient in its view of today’s society.

One of the most impressive feats of animation ever committed to the screen, the expressionistic, hostile and chaotic animation style extends the already loaded story an extra mile. Without an iota of stillness, the frame is always moving, the characters always shaking, the atmosphere always heaving on the hazy air and claustrophobic skyline.

  • Renton47's rating of the film Akira

I feel like this particular narrative was a virus on my developing mind - and not just me, a generation of political-apathetics allured by the conspiracy, nihilism, destruction. I still root for Tetsuo, even recognising his romance as a kind of distraction from the bigger things he/I can't grasp. That's also the appeal of cinema, the virus an encompassing dream we must emerge from.

  • Duncan Gray's rating of the film Akira

A landmark of not just anime, but of sci-fi and cinema cool, with its fingerprints all over decades of movies and video games, from the cyber-punk style to the mysticism that doesn't make 100% sense. It starts with a rather adolescent view of sex/violence, which would be a problem if it didn't take adolescent frustration as its subject. And its ending, of youthful renewal, is far from cheap or nihilistic.

F**k Olympics. Devastating economic recession, information control over Panama papers & gradually deteriorating racism.... as Japanese living near Tokyo, I critically feel Japan is getting worse and worse and worse & recently The Guardians said "Tokyo Olympics: €1.3m payment to secret account raises questions over 2020 Games"......I'm speechless. That future "Akira" represents becomes serious reality, HAHAHAHAHA....

  • smndvdcl's rating of the film Akira

The sprawling second half is an overwhelming acid trip on first viewing, but this futuristic dystopia resonates far beyond the year of its creation. It remains one of the most startling manga creations and has pervaded the underworld of anime as a key influence. Still freaks the hell out of me. Brutal and beautiful.

  • Harry Rossi's rating of the film Akira

Without a doubt some of the most beautiful animation I've ever seen in a movie period. The film was beautiful, exciting, non-stop, unrelenting and completely insane. That being said, the story was incredibly convoluted and at times very hard to follow. I honestly don't think I could tell you what happened at end of the movie. I'd like to hope this will be fixed with repeated viewings cause I loved a lot of this film.

  • Paolo Simeone's rating of the film Akira

  • Roscoe's rating of the film Akira

About the only anime I willingly watch. The plot is wildly elaborate and ultimately secondary to all the cool stuff happening, and there's a lot happening, and it is always cool. Don't bother trying to figure out what's going on, just go along for the ride.

  • Phil Worfel's rating of the film Akira

Somehow anime seems to be the only animation that can deliver on the epic scale that this film perfectly exemplifies. One of the handful of anime that can be recommended to anyone as a standalone masterpiece. The graphic novel should be read as well. Almost completely different and yet 4 times as epic.
