BILLY LIAR

Billy Fisher is a lazy, irresponsible, underachieving undertaker’s assistant in provincial Northern England. His constant daydreams and truth-deficient stories are the cause of his emotionally immature decisions which alienate friends and family, earning him the nickname “Billy Liar.”

Working again with writer Willis Hall to capture the social frustrations of a new, young Britain, John Schlesinger’s second feature proved an instant classic. Tom Courtenay is perfect as Billy, the frivolous and fanciful clerk, while Julie Christie, in her breakout role, sets the screen ablaze.
