Such journey of fellings, from lost, grief, and a sour happines. The act of misleading from the sake of surviving, puts in perspective life and why the hate, and why we as "intelligent species" dont learn. But now about the movie, every frame more beautiful than the last, the story is breath taking from sad reasons , it should have been taken from a science-fiction book, but saddly its pretty much real. WATCH IT
An exploration of identity and how fluid it can be, especially when it's dependant on survival. The film itself can feel fragmented at points, not a necessarily negative issue since it's a memoir, but it could be more cohesive of the the whole experience.
A seminal film on the plight of Jews and the surging problems of identity (racial, ethnic, cultural, ideological) which if exacerbated lead to the tragedy that the film unfolds and is told, at moments, in academic style, yet with bravura and surreal scene insertions. While the latter do not dazzle, Holland's tribute to Klimov's 'Idi i Smotri' is obvious and important. Well-acted, it is a tribute to collective lament.
I found the film weirdly dated. As there have been so many films about the Jewish experience of the Holocaust there was not much that made this one stand apart. There were some tremendous visuals and some fascinating vignettes but on the whole I did not the find the protagonist to be compelling as a character despite the fact that it was a true story. A worthwhile viewing for those fascinated by the era.
